Banosz
Description
Banosh is a Ukrainian dish prepared from cornmeal with added smetana (sour cream), topped with pork rind, mushrooms, and bryndza.
Ingredients
- 200 g of cornmeal
- 500 ml of sour cream or heavy cream
- 100 g of bryndza (or feta cheese as a substitute)
- 100 g of pork rind (optional, for topping)
- 50 g of mushrooms (optional, for topping)
- Salt to taste
Steps
- In a pot, bring the sour cream or heavy cream to a simmer over low heat.
- Gradually add the cornmeal to the simmering cream, stirring continuously to prevent lumps.
- Cook the mixture on low heat, stirring regularly, until it thickens and the cornmeal is fully cooked (around 15-20 minutes).
- Season with salt to taste.
- In a separate pan, fry the pork rind until crispy and golden. If using mushrooms, sauté them as well.
- Serve the banosz hot, topped with crumbled bryndza, crispy pork rind, and sautéed mushrooms.
